Ways to Build Self-Confidence

For those who lack self-confidence, it is good to know that confidence is not in-born. It is actually a learned trait. You can be on your way to exuding self-confidence with these top five confidence building tips.

  • Clothing
Take the time to choose your clothing with care. Dress in shirts and pants that you like, instead of settling for sweatpants and a t-shirt. Whether you believe it or not, what you wear has an effect on your mood. Wearing things that you enjoy will brighten your mood, thereby increasing your confidence level. Business suits and formal dresses are nice, but if they don't fit your personality, there's no sense in them. Choose something that says this is me- jeans, sweaters, tank tops, etc. Go for what makes you feel good.

  • Make-Up
Obviously men do not have to bother with make-up, however women who apply make-up generally feel better about themselves. Your face is the first thing people see when they look at you. Even stay at home mothers and wives should take the time to apply a touch of make-up. Make-up is a good way to appear confident and in control. Knowing that you are putting your best face forward will give you an instant confidence boost that will become natural.

  • Hair
Whether you are male or female, taking the time to brush and style your hair can have a big impact on how you view yourself. When you look in the mirror and see unkempt, uncombed hair it gives you a feel of being "frumpy". Take a few moments everyday to wash and style your hair. Women can even add in a bow, clip, or other accessory that accents their clothes or make-up. When you feel like you look good, it gives you a positive outlook on your day.

  • Smile
People who smile are the people who are happy. Generally people who are happy are the ones that are comfortable and confident in themselves. Start taking notice of the things that make you happy, and allow yourself to give into a smile from time to time.

  • Stop Over Thinking
People who lack confidence often have a tendency to over-think and over-worry about other peoples' reactions and thoughts about them. If you are secretly a crazy, obnoxiously fun person, then enjoy being you. People will either like you, or they won't, and not everyone has to like you. Stop worrying yourself over them, and be confident and secure in who you are as an individual. If you like yourself, that is all that matters.

When you are a confident person, you will have less fear about going out and conquering the world. You will be more willing to take a chance on things, including reaching a dream or goal you thought unattainable. A positive attitude builds confidence, and leads to a happier, more successful you. =>
